A Service for Private Landlords Bolton Housing Advice Service is part of Bolton MBC Community Housing Services, situated in the town centre on Silverwell Lane within the Housing Options Centre.
We offer a "drop-in" service (see opening hours) and also give advice on the telephone, in writing and via e-mail.
The Housing Advice Service works closely with other Departments of the Authority and with other agencies.
We have been instrumental in a number of initiatives in the private sector, including the Landlord Accreditation and Registration Schemes, provision of training for landlords and production of information leaflets for both private landlords and tenants.
The Housing Advice Service offers comprehensive advice to landlords and can give advice on the following areas of Housing Law:-
• Repairs
• Rights and obligations of landlords and tenants
• Procedure for ending a tenancy
• Rents
• Arrears
• Abandonment
• Housing Benefit
The Housing Advice Service offers a point of contact for landlords and prospective tenant. We publish a list of landlords which is given out to members of the public and to other agencies. We also keep details of current vacancies on file and will ring landlords on a customer's behalf to arrange appointments to view.
We do not however "vet" prospective tenants or manage the properties for landlords. Landlords must decide for themselves whether a prospective tenant is suitable.
The Housing Advice Service works closely with the Bolton Bond Board which administers a "non-cash" deposit guarantee scheme. We issue Bonds on their behalf and can give advice to landlords about the scheme.
The Housing Advice Service stock a range of free booklets for landlords and tenants. We also stock Tenancy Agreements, for which there is a small charge.
For further advice or information, call in or ring the Housing Advice Service and ask to speak to a Housing Adviser.
